News Release: The Truth Comes Out - Canadians Want Restrictions on Abortion
Wednesday, 04 August 2010 07:46

(www.ARPACanada.ca, August 4, 2010): A newly-released Angus Reid public opinion poll reveals some startling findings on abortion that blow apart the myth that the abortion debate is settled in Canada. In its ten page news release, Angus Reid highlighted that only 21% of Canadians know that there are no legal restrictions on abortion in Canada. Even more astounding, when the respondents were told about the reality of the lack of abortion laws and then asked which option they would prefer to regulate abortion, only 27% wanted the status-quo to be maintained. Less than half of the respondents (44%) think that abortions should be publicly funded and a majority think that women under the age of 18 should have to get consent from their parents or legal guardian to get an abortion. To add to all of this, a whopping 79% "would support provincial legislation demanding that health care workers give information about alternatives to abortion to pregnant women."

What does Canada's Christian heritage mean today? For one, it reminds us that "Canadian values" are not what judges or journalists dream up. Our history testifies that it was Christian principles that built this country and made it strong and free. This very short video looks at some examples of Canada's Christian heritage, carved into our Parliament buildings in Ottawa.

Who benefits from Early Childhood Education?
Monday, 02 August 2010 05:43

By Neil Dykstra. First published in Reformed Perspective magazine, June 2010:

The provincial governments of Ontario and British Columbia have begun to convert their half-day kindergarten programs to all-day. The stated intention in both provinces is to extend all-day kindergarten further into the preschool years as funding allows. This means that children as young as two may be spending five full days a week in a learning institution in the near future. There is not much opposition to this expansion of the education system from mainstream Canadians. They have been won over by two things:

Tories look to scrap affirmative action in federal hiring

Globe & Mail, July 22 2010: The Conservatives say race and ethnicity shouldn't enter into the hiring process for federal jobs and have ordered a review of affirmative action policies. They want to look at government hiring practices, which currently give priority to qualified applicants from minority groups.

New Democrat MP Pat Martin called the move a “full-frontal attack on affirmative action.” Visible minorities, including aboriginals, have long been underrepresented in the public service. Treasury Board President Stockwell Day said no Canadian should be barred from a federal job because of race or ethnicity. “While we support diversity in the public service, we want to ensure that no Canadian is barred from opportunities in the public service based on race or ethnicity,” Mr. Day said in a statement. Two moms and one dad; Reform means government would recognize three-parent families
Tuesday, 20 July 2010 07:10

ARPA Note: Please take the time to send in letters to the editor, as this story is appearing in more papers across the country. ARPA Canada submitted a letter to the Vancouver Sun, arguing that when preference becomes the standard, rather than biology or adoption, it is impossible to draw a line.

Steve Burri's two daughters are always outnumbered when it comes to arguing with their parents. That's because Jazz, 17, and Zea, 7, have two moms and a dad, something the B.C. government has said it may legally recognize as one of many proposed reforms to B.C.'s Family Relations Act. Under the current law, the government will not recognize all partners in a three-parent relationship as equal guardians of a child -- only the two biological parents. Under the new proposal, however, the law could recognize same-sex couples and the biological mother or father of their child as equal parents if all three parties set out that wish in writing before the birth of their child. Judge Me Not on the Content of My Character
Friday, 16 July 2010 15:11

NoApologies.ca – July 16 2010 - By Neil Dykstra:  The skin color of our new governor general, David Johnston, matters very little to me. Neither did it matter from what race or nationality our previous two Governor-Generals hailed, Adrienne Clarkson and Michaelle Jean. The central question to their appointment was simple – can they do the job? Can they, as head of state, represent Canada on the world stage? Can they present national awards, politicized as they are, to deserving individuals? And can they steer Canada through a constitutional crisis if called upon?
