ARPA and Armageddon
Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:15

Marci McDonald's recently-launched book "The Armageddon Factor: The Rise of Christian Nationalism in Canada" has been making headlines across the country. In this 400+ page book, McDonald attempts to make the case that the "Christian Right" in Canada is large, organized, has direct ties to Harper, and is something that all Canadians should fear. Alongside the many factual errors, one of its key weaknesses is they way that the author paints all conservatives with the same brush, lumping ARPA in with most other religious organizations that dare speak up in the public square and suggesting with the title that we all share a common view of the end times which motivates us to political action.

This Christian ministry, which requires its employees to sign a Statement of Faith and a Lifestyle and Morality Policy, was the subject of a human rights complaint when a staff member resigned after she felt she could no longer live according to the commitment she made when she signed the policy.

Tuesday, 11 May 2010 10:04

For immediate release: New study highlights how public school enrolment is declining, while independent school enrolment is rising; funding fails to reflect parental choices

May 6, 2010 (Ottawa) – A new study released today by the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada reveals that in spite of demographic decline, enrolment in Ontario’s independent schools is on the rise as public school enrolment declines. Public school funding, however, continues to rise in a manner that is completely unresponsive to student numbers. “Parental choices in education are not reflected in our current school funding system,” says study author Derek Miedema. “Even in face of demographic decline, independent school enrolment continues to increase. Parents shoulder the burden of this cost across Ontario today.”
