ARPA Note: Please take the time to send in letters to the editor, as this story is appearing in more papers across the country. ARPA Canada submitted a letter to the Vancouver Sun, arguing that when preference becomes the standard, rather than biology or adoption, it is impossible to draw a line.
Steve Burri's two daughters are always outnumbered when it comes to arguing with their parents. That's because Jazz, 17, and Zea, 7, have two moms and a dad, something the B.C. government has said it may legally recognize as one of many proposed reforms to B.C.'s Family Relations Act. Under the current law, the government will not recognize all partners in a three-parent relationship as equal guardians of a child -- only the two biological parents. Under the new proposal, however, the law could recognize same-sex couples and the biological mother or father of their child as equal parents if all three parties set out that wish in writing before the birth of their child. NoApologies.ca – July 16 2010 - By Neil Dykstra: The skin color of our new governor general, David Johnston, matters very little to me. Neither did it matter from what race or nationality our previous two Governor-Generals hailed, Adrienne Clarkson and Michaelle Jean. The central question to their appointment was simple – can they do the job? Can they, as head of state, represent Canada on the world stage? Can they present national awards, politicized as they are, to deserving individuals? And can they steer Canada through a constitutional crisis if called upon?
Last week, the third of three allegedly independent inquiries into last fall's Climategate scandal at Britain's Climate Research Unit (CRU) was concluded. Like the other two, it found troubling behaviour by the scientists at the CRU or by the University of East Anglia, of which the CRU is a part -- most notably attempts to hide data from critics and from government investigators. Longtime ARPA member Mike Schouten recently took to the airwaves of Vancouver's most popular radio station to talk about faith and politics and explain why he is running as a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party. Appearing on Wednesday's edition of CKNW's Bill Good Show, Mike had about 50 minutes, one-on-one with the host, boldly speaking up about the important role of Christianity in Canada's politics.

A dozen MPs, acting without a quorum, changed the holiday's name to the vapid, meaningless 'Canada Day'
By GREG FELTON, Montreal Gazette, June 30, 2010: At 4 p.m. on a Friday - July 9, 1982 -the House of Commons met with only one item on the agenda: Bill C-201, a private member's bill to change the name of the July 1 holiday from "Dominion Day" to "Canada Day." About a dozen of the 282 members the House showed up for work, which presented a procedural problem: A quorum of at least 20 members is required to conduct business, so, officially, no bills could be passed. Nevertheless, Bill C-201 was given second and third reading. At 4:05 p.m., our hard-working representatives called it a day. [Read the rest of the story here.]
